As residents of Southern California, we are no strangers to the occasional rainstorm. However, this year has seen an unusual amoun
t of rainfall, and many people in the region have been caught off guard by the deluge.
Unfortunately, this lack of preparedness has led to an increase in accidents on the roads and homes being damaged by leaks and flooding. On the roads, drivers who are not accustomed to driving in wet conditions are finding it difficult to
navigate through the rain, leading to a rise in car accidents. In some cases, drivers are even ignoring the warnings of flooded roads and attempting to drive through them, which can be extremely dangerous.
At the same time, many homes in the region are not equipped to handle such a large amount of rain. Leaks and flooding have caused extensive damage to some houses, resulting in costly repairs. Even homes that are normally
safe from flooding have experienced issues due to the sheer volume of water falling from the sky.
So what can we do to better prepare ourselves for future rainstorms? Here are a few tips:
Make sure your car is equipped for wet weather. Check your tires and make sure they have enough tread to provide good tracti
on in the rain. Replace your windshield wipers if they are not clearing the rain from your windshield effectively.
Check your home for potential leaks. Look for areas where water might be able to enter your home, such as around windows and doors, and take steps to seal these areas.
Keep an emergency kit on hand. This should include items such as flashlights, candl
es, blankets, and non-perishable food in case you lose power or are unable to leave your home due to flooding.
By following these simple steps, we can all do our part to stay safe and dry during the next big rainstorm in Southern California.
